It’s sometimes surreal to think that in the institutional Lending industry that most people are reduced to the 3 digit number known as the FICO score. As cold as it might seem at times it is “objectively” the most fair and quickest way to determine the acceptable risk level of a borrower.

If you are like a number of people in the world today, you may not know exactly what a FICO Score is. Actually, you may already know it, however, you were just not aware that FICO Score is just another term for your credit score. This is quite possibly one of the most important numbers in your life with the exception of your social security number. In the cases of your financial reputation, your FICO score is the only way many people will ever know you and they will judge your credit worthiness based on that magic number. Your FICO score is the three digits that all lending institutions will use when they are looking into your credit history to determine worthiness for extensions of credit, loan amounts, financing figures, interest rates and more.

The FICO Score is quite an important part of your life, mainly due to the fact that if yours is bad, then you can have a much more difficult time when it comes to getting good credit limits and terms on your credit cards. The FICO Score can also affect the kinds of rates that you will get when it comes to home or car loans. The lower your score, the more of a chance that you will have of paying higher interest, penalties or not even getting the loans that you desire.

There are several different helpful programs online that you can use in order to check up on your FICO Score. Many of these programs will allow you to be able to constantly monitor your score and all of the aspects that are affecting it. The three major credit reporting agencies that people can deal with are Experian, Trans Union and Equifax. Such a program can be very helpful when you are looking to eliminate some of the factors that are hindering your credit progress.

Even though it is true, some people do find it discouraging that the three digits that make up your FICO Score can have such an impact on your credit worthiness. You can experience the impact of this number first hand if you are unable to purchase the house of your dreams, or if on the other hand you are able to get your desired car because your credit is top-notch. Because this score can have such a bearing on your everyday life and finances, it is always important that you do everything that you possibly can to ensure that you keep your FICO Score the highest point that you can manage.

Once you have found that you do know and understand all that your FICO Score consists of, you can then work to maintain it so that you will have a much brighter financial future. Always pay your bills and/or current loan and credit card payments on time, and keep your applications for credit to a minimum. Using this tactic, you should be able to keep your score in great shape and a higher FICO Score will definitely pay off in the long run, guaranteed.
